Robert P. Taylor's Musicians: Reflections of Music Making

David Jackson
and
Nicholas Cotellesssa
listen to Dvorak and pupils

These two tenors were drawn 22 October 2000, during Riverside's concert, From the Southland to the New World, exploring the creative interplay between Dvorak and four African American composers who studied with him. The choir's role was relatively small - singing only four Burleigh spirituals, so these two, like David Orcutt (inset top left) and the other singers did lots of listening, to soloists, to pianist Joseph Joubert (inset top right), and to the orchestra (inset lower left). This drawing here is a another illustration of the chance involved in drawing musical events - Nicholas' picture was drawn on the tenor section listing, right on top of his name.
