This March 2000 drawing was done during rehearsal or performance of the Missa Brevis, in the upper left corner of the back cover of the score, the same cover on which I had sketched Mark Miller accompanying in earlier rehearsal. The color was less luminous than this image makes it appear, and it was low contrast with the line of the pencil I was using, but I was just doing rapid sketching so I didn't think about it. This was one of a number of sketches of David that were more suggestion than actual drawing, but they paid off in a very nice rendering (last inset), before the second set of performances (those in March 2000) were done. Inside this score were a drawing of Jennifer Seldon (above right) at a poco rallentando on the orchestral introduction and one of Jim Seiler (below left) at the beginning of the Sanctus.
