Robert P. Taylor's Musicians
Reflections of Music Making

Esther Jane Hardenberg
Soprano
Riverside Church Service
14 January 1996

This drawing of Esther Jane was done during the Sunday service at Riverside, but nothing more than the date was noted. I first met Esther Jane when she came and asked me if I would sing in a concert version of "Marriage of Figaro" someone in the music department was trying to arrange. I couldn't, but then I got to know her fairly well over several years of singing with her in Riverside Choir ( above and inset left), and eventually sat on her doctoral defense. It was an excellent document arguing that the too many American College vocal students continued to sing too little of English language song literature, and especially, American. The thesis then thoroughly presented a number os songs of Hundley, treated by Esther Jane according to difficulty, for these students to incorporate in their practice and recital. It was through her and her thesis that I became acquainted with the songs of Richard Hundley (inset right) and eventually constructed a website focused on his work.
