Esther Jane Hardenberg
Soprano
Singing Handel

This was drawn 7 April 1996 during one of the Easter Morning services at Riverside, as Esther Jane sang the aria "Let the Bright Seraphim" from Handel's oratorio, Sampson. In the section right behind my choir stall seat with the basses, trumpeter Ray Mace (left inset) from the Julliard School's brass faculty was playing the obligato trumpet part. Those familiar with this piece know it is a soprano favorite, so it is no surprise that there is another drawing in this site, of a different soprano singing this same aria (middle inset). While Esther Jane's accompaniment included a trumpeter, that is not always the case, as other instances (left center and right center insets) demonstrate. Esther Jane sang very well for the several years she was in the choir, the most of which time she was a doctoral student in music at Teachers College. Unfortunately, I don't have many pictures of her because I had only begun to draw when she left. The last inset is one other I did do.
