These drawings were done at various times since 1996 and capture Hope singing various pieces, often, though not in every case, during Sunday morning serices. Hope sometimes sings as a soloist in oratorio or other concerts at Riverside, but they never present me with an opportunity to draw her soloing because the soloists are usually far out in front of the choir for such events and facing the audience, have their backs to everyone in the choir, me included. As with nearly all the solos whose singers I do get the opportunity to sketch, Hope's, too, inevitably last only a few minutes, so I must work very fast and trust to capturing the spirit more than all the details.
