Robert P. Taylor's Musicians:
Reflections of Music Making
Jennifer Seldon
Riverside Choir Alto
Kodaly Missa Brevis
This 1 March 2000 drawing was done during rehearsal or performance of the Missa Brevis, at the bottom of the first of two score pages of orchestral introduction. It is particularly interesting because it was at top of the same page in an other copy of the score two and a half years earlier, during a previous concert with the Limon Dance company that I had drawn a sketch of David LaMarche (inset left), the same conductor who was conducting it in 2000. Baritone Jim
Seiler (inset right) was drawn on this same score, in a different section, 2 days after this drawing of Jennifer. The border was created by cutting a small frame of blue construction paper and laying it over the score during scanning. The dynamics here, poco rallentando seemed perfect
for this drawing of Jennifer, just as the title Sanctus does for the picture of Seiler. In neither case did I know what either was thinking, whereas, by contrast, I did know what Juan Ibarra was thinking, when I drew his picture a few months later (lower inset).
