The second drawing above (that touching the word "Handel") was done as we performed parts of the Messiah for a special, Saturday audience of children and families, the day before performing the full Messiah. I had already drawn Saskia (lower image above) the day before, so I added this sketch in the remaining space above it, to capture her posture a second time and to get a little more of her face. A later the same afternoon, I did a "head only" sketch of her (inset left) to get the profile completely. Besides Saskia, I drew Jeff Marchand, the bassoonist (inset right), playing very nearly in front of her, and a number of other musicians (see Messiah below).
