Shanon Seals, principal trumpet, "The trumpet shall sound"
Messiah Rehearsal -- Friday night, 4 May 2001
This was my first picture of Shannon, done during the Friday night rehearsal for the Messiah performances, drawn on the score, on the final bars of "Since by man came death", on the top of the page facing the long trumpet introduction to "The trumpet shall sound". Shannon was only fifteen feet away from my seat so I watched him carefully for a few seconds, and then drew. Bass Peter Couchman joined him in this number, but his back was to me and I'd already drawn him (inset left) Messiah-ing, so I did Shannon. The next day, I drew this trumpeter again (inset right), as he played the same well-known number, familiar, but never easy, for the trumpeter who would play it well. Click on the drawing above to view both drawings of Shannon side by side.
