Here are both trumpets from the Festival Orchestra, at two different points, in two different states, during rehearsal and performance of the Messiah in May 2001. Sycil (left), drawn on the score, is shown waiting it out during Friday's rehearsal, a role trumpet players get a great deal of practice in, both during rehearsal and performance. Shannon (right), principal trumpet, is shown playing the trumpet part to the well known "Trumpet shall sound" aria, during the partial performance on Saturday, that to which families and children were especially invited. His hair seemed to celebrate the piece he was playing, and this drawing accurately reproduces that. Though this picture of Shannon was done on a small sheet of drawing paper, I also drew him on the score, the day before (inset right).
