Robert P. Taylor's Musicians: Reflections of Music Making
Makea McDonald, soprano, long-time Riverside Choir member and soloist
These are three drawings of Makea done between 1996 and 2001, at Riverside Church, representing succinctly several of the roles she fills: concert solist, choir member, and Sunday service soloist. The "angelic" one was made during performance of the Faure Requiem in May1996. The "pink" one was made as the choir sat waiting in its choir stall seats during a Sunday service 4 years later, in May 2000. And the "yellow" one was made as Makea sang a solo as part of the Sunday service a year later still, on 24 June 2001. This collection would be complete if it included a drawing of Makea singing as a choir soprano during a service, concert, or rehearsal, but I never seemed to capture that, probably because I was singing at the same time and was not free to draw her.
