This drawing of Makea was made as she sang Dottie Rambo's "We shall behold Him" in the Riverside Church Sunday Service on 24 June 2001. Makea is a long-time choir colleague and friend and an excellent soprano so it was fitting that I drew her this particular morning. It was fitting because only a few moments before, I had drawn another long-time friend and excellent musician, oboist Jim Byars (inset left), as he played the service's prelude. And Makea, like Jim, was accompanied on the organ by Tim Smith. I have drawn Makea before (inset right), but I did not have a good, recent drawing of her singing, so I welcomed this opporunity. It was also fitting to draw her on the bulletin next to the printed icon of Riverside, the church in which she has done so much of her singing.
