This drawing was done on the back cover of the score of Kodaly's Missa Brevis, on a Sunday morning in February 2000, while the Riverside Choir rehearsed the piece in preparation for a repeat concert with the Jose Limon dance company in March. We had performed this piece with the Limon dancers back in 1997 and sketches done then of their David La Marche and Clara Longstreth (upper insets) appeared on separate pages inside this same score. This same back cover now also bears a quick sketch of David La Marche's head, (lower left inset) above and to the left of the portion on which Mark was drawn. Whether Mark was actually playing from this score at the moment I sketched him on its cover is uncertain. Reheasal inevitably involves several works, and I may have used this because it had a nicely colored blank space free. I nice free drawing space attracts me like a magnet, no matter what it's on (lower right inset).
