This drawing was done on free space on the back page of Hailstork's I Will Lift Up Mine Eyes, during a 22 October 1999 rehearsal of Ralph Vaughn Williams Toward the Unknown Region The Riverside Choir was preparing for a concert involving these two pieces and compositions by Barber and Copland (see Barber et al link below). Though the drawing suggests Juan was considering what Nicholas has just said about Williams' piece, I drew Juan there a few days later, at another rehearsal, and have no idea what he was thinking about. In fact, I'm not sure why I attributed these words to Nick. We may have been discussing the work in break, or I may just have been projecting my own thinking about Unknown Regions.....
