Left above is a drawing of Cyrus Chestnut, on the piano, accompanying Kathleen Battle as she sang at Riverside Church in New York on 19 July 1998. Right above is a drawing of a another pianist accompanying another soprano, as she sang in Prague, in the Rudophina, on 20 May 1997. Though the locations, times, and musical styles of these two performances were distinctly different, they took place in a single musical world, one in which either pianist and either soprano could easily perform, attracting an equally appreciative audience, in the opposite venue.
