Reflections of Music Making
Peter Schoettle
French Horn
Elijah rehearsal
7 May 1998
Peter was the only Elijay peformer drawn twice (see Side-by-side Schoettles below). This is the second drawing, done at the 7 May dress rehearsal, as we prepared for two performances of Mendelssohn's Elijah at Riverside, 8 and 10 May. This particular drawing was executed on the last page in the score, a blank page just inside the back cover. On another part of that page I also drew David (left inset), the boy soprano as he sang about the rain Elijah had asked for. I also drew violinist Barry Stern (center inset) and Elijah himself (right inset), sung by Timothy Noble. Elijah has interesting music for the orchestra as well as the chorus, and I was in a good position to draw a number of the orchestra players, in parts where the chorus (or at least the basses) were not singing.
