These two rapid profiles were made at different times and in different circumstances. That on the left was made in September 2000, during a morning service, when rather arbitray summer seating for the choir happened to place him within easy drawing range. It was executed at some point when we were not singing. In contrast, the other drawing was made while we were singing, singing the hymn "Morning has broken". Having noticed Rufus two rows in front of me as we sang the first two verses, I determined to capture him at it before we ended. I got ready during the third verse, and drew this during the 28 word text of that hymn's last verse.
