Vernon Regehr, cellist (on Shubert Mass in G score)...
This drawing was done 11 March 2001, on a whimsical inspiration, as we rehearsed the Shubert Mass Kyrie for its performance an hour later in the morning service at Riverside. As the quartet played their opening passage several times for the conductor, I watched through the singers in front of me and realized I could get a good drawing of the cellist, the only player I could see at all. I began and with a few stops while we sang, I continued to work on the image, finishing before the rehearsal ended. Two months later, as we performed the Messiah, I drew Vernon on that score but from the rear (inset right).
