Robert P. Taylor's Musicians: Reflections of Music Making

Terralyn Ramsey, high school senior - celebrating graduation

This 21 May 2000 drawing was done during the Sunday morning service, when this high school senior sang, to mark her impending graduation. The use of a mike and the type of singing were quite different from most of that usually done by soloists of the Riverside Choir (left inset), but not from that done by the Inspirational Choir and its soloists (inset right). The former do not for the most part use mikes or seem to need them, probably because of the nature of their voices and the particular voice training they have had. The latter always use mikes. It is a rather interesting aside to consider that Gospel music moved into the popular arena in the latter half of the 20th Century, picked up microphones, and brought them back into the religious service where the music originated.
