Robert P. Taylor's Musicians: Reflections of Music Making
Rufus Mueller and Bob Convery, drawn on the Eleventh Variety Show program
This Eleventh Riverside Choir Annual Variety Show was a tribute to the music of Gerge Gershwin and Duke Ellington, music both these two participants are familiar with. Tenor Rufus (left), looking in this drawing a bit more like Noel Coward than either of the honored composers, with his usual flair sang one of the many solos that night, "I've been to a Marvelous party". Baritone Bob sang only in the group numbers but as a contemporary American composer who has himself written such a wide variety of music, vocal and otherwise, he must have been thinking about the work of both these composers as he performed with or listened to his choir collegues.
