The LGBTQ Diversity Scholarship
The LGBTQ Diversity Scholarship is for students interested in a career that supports LGBTQ populations in the fields of health, education, and psychology. Consideration will be given to applicants that demonstrates a clear commitment to research and practice surrounding LGBTQ issues and awareness. The recipient of the award will likely be expected to construct a relevant service or research contribution to the TC Community. Depending on their program, MA/MS recipients may receive up to 36 credits of total funding; EdM recipients may receive up to 48 credits (funds may be applied to tuition only and not to exceed total credits required for program of study). Applicants must plan to enroll in a master's program at Teachers College (with an entry term of Summer 2018 or Fall 2018) and have a dedicated commitment (with service visible on their resume and within their scholarship essay) to the field of LGBTQ issues and awareness.
Those interested in applying for the LGBTQ Diversity Scholarship must submit the LGBTQ Diversity Scholarship Application Form by the February 1st deadline. Those who are eligible to apply for the LGBTQ Diversity Scholarship should find the application form on their Admission Status Page after they have completed their application for admission.
Please note that this award-specific application is separate from the scholarship application included within your application for admission. The application for this award will be available to new students only (namely, those who plan to begin their studies in Summer 2018 or Fall 2018).

LGBTQ Scholar 2017/2018
Adnan Moussa joins Teachers College with years of experience working with underrepresented students graduating high school and transitioning into college. Most recently, he has worked with students in foster care, advocating for their right to equal opportunities and providing them with close mentorship so that they complete high school, secure funding, and succeed in their first year in college. This work has given him a closer insight to the current policies that impede students’ enrollment in higher education, especially for those who are first-generation, low income, LGBTQ, and of color. Adnan is committed to improving college access and retention for underrepresented students, and hopes that his degree in Education Policy will push him closer to his goal. Adnan comes to TC from Detroit, where he earned his Bachelor’s in Near Eastern Studies from Wayne State University, and a Master’s in the same field from New York University.
LGBTQ Scholar 2016/2017
Jason Wang is currently a doctoral student in Counseling Psychology at the University of Iowa. At Teachers College, he was the President of Queer TC and a clinical intern at The Kull Initiative for Psychotherapy. Perpetually clad in black, Jason is a fan of fashion, art, design, pop culture, and gaming. As the Diversity Fellow in the Office of the Vice President for Diversity and Community Affairs, he developed and executed innovative events like Gaming in identity, a panel with game creators and researchers and an exhibition of games exploring queerness, marginalization, and subversive narratives. With the help of his cabinet, Jason was able to continue QueerWeek, a full week of events exploring and celebrating the intersectionality inherent in queer identity. He also helped develop the E-MO-TION Wall, a reactionary art project that facilitated open and honest discourse via visual representations of the emotions and feelings of the students on campus. The LGBTQ Diversity Scholarship allowed him to marry his personal and academic interests with his devotion to social justice and activism.
LGBTQ Scholar 2014/2015
Michael Andres Palmieri is a doctoral student in the Adult Learning & Leadership program. Palmieri has been working with The Tyler Clementi Foundation (TCF), a non-profit organization committed to ending bullying, and developed a training & development module titled "On Bullying." This module helps individuals assess bullying situations and choose the best course of action. It is being distributed to corporations across the world via Workplace Options - one of the leading human resources training companies in the world. A portion of the licensing fees are being donated to TCF. He is currently developing a new module for the organization dealing with workplace bullying.
