How to Apply


A complete application consists of the following:
 
  • Completed application form  -- The application form can be downloaded here or filled out online.
  • Statement of purpose  (around 500 words)  -- Written in English (by non-native speakers of English) or Chinese (by non-native speakers of Chinese)
  • English or Chinese language score reports  -- Non-native speakers of Chinese should submit a standardized Chinese proficiency test report (e.g., HSK); non-native speakers of English should submit a standardized English proficiency test report (e.g., TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC).
    (1)  For non-native speakers of English: preferred minimum score for TOEFL (90 for iBT and 233 for cBT), IELTS (6.0), or TOEIC (700). We do not require GRE score reports.
    (2)  For non-native speakers of Chinese: preferably a minimum level of 5 on HSK.
    (3)  Please note that the language score report is just one part of the application requirements. Please inquire if you have additional questions.
  • Official copies of college transcripts  -- Please have the transcripts sent directly to you, which you can then submit to us as part of your application.
  • Two reference letters  -- You may request for the letters to be emailed to us directly at tcsol@tc.columbia.edu, or you may include the references along with other application material.
  • A non-refundable US$100 application fee  -- Please see below for payment options.


Application Procedure   (ELECTRONIC Application ONLY)


STEP 1:   Scan your application documents (including application form, statement of purpose, college transcripts, language score reports, etc.) and email the file(s) to us at
tcsol@tc.columbia.edu. Please save the files as .PDF.
  • All applicants should submit their complete application "ELECTRONICALLY" to us at "tcsol@tc.columbia.edu".
STEP 2:   Submit the non-refundable US$100 application fee.

  • We accept credit card payment (*PREFERRED*):  Click here to make a payment online with a credit card (https://commerce.cashnet.com/TCSOL). Please submit receipt/confirmation of payment along with all other electronic application documents to us at "tcsol@tc.columbia.edu".
  • We also allow for personal/cashier/traveler's checks, bank drafts, or money orders drawn on U.S. banks (NO CASH**):  Must be made payable to "TCSOL, Teachers College".  Please mail the check to:

We are currently accepting applications for the 2014-2015 session. Spaces are limited. 
Application deadlines for Fall 2014 - Spring 2015 AY are:
  • Domestic students & International students (who do NOT need to apply for Visa):
    September 15, 2014 (final deadline)

  • International students (who NEED to apply for J-1 Visa to enter the U.S.):
    June 30, 2014
