Our one-day summer workshops are a cost-effective way to update your skills and your resume!

Teaching English to Children
Saturday, June 29th

This workshop is designed for English teachers who are not experienced in working with children in a foreign language context. The workshop covers approaches to teaching foreign language to children; activity and materials design; and classroom management techniques.

Preparing Students for Standardized Tests Like the TOEFL
Saturday, July 6
from 10am -- 4pm

To succeed on standardized tests like the TEOFL, students need a good command of English, as well as a range of test-taking strategies. This hands-on workshop offers interactive approaches to test preparation. It also shows how test preparation can enhance students' overall language proficiency. The workshop is especially suited to those with no exposure to the Internet-based (ibt) TOEFL as test takers or test preparers. However, all are welcome.

Teaching English to Adults with Limited Literacy
Saturday, July 20
from 10am -- 4pm

This hands-on workshop focuses on teaching approaches and curricula suitable for working with adults with limited literacy in their first language. Topics include: materials appropriate for non-literate language learners and strategies for working with multiple levels in a single class. This workshop is appropriate for those planning to work with immigrants in community language programs here in the U.S., as well as with adult students with a limited academic background abroad.

Phonetics and Phonology for English Teachers
Saturday, July 27
from 10am -- 4pm

Despite the fact that English language learners are almost invariably interested in improving their pronunciation, ESL and EFL teachers often neglect this aspect of effective communication. One reason may be a lack of understanding of the English sound system. This workshop is designed to give teachers an overview of the mechanics of sound production as well as an understanding of word- and sentence-level stress. Appropriate for both experienced and novice teachers, the workshop will help prepare teachers to work with their students on pronunciation and prosody.

Grammar for English Teachers
Saturday, August 3
from 10am -- 4pm

This new workshop was added to our schedule at the request of ESL and EFL teachers, who felt that their own grasp of English grammar needed improvement. Designed for both novice and experienced teachers, this workshop is designed to give participants an in-depth understanding of some of the more complex aspects of English grammar, such as tense & aspect, and reported speech.

Teaching Business English
Date and Time: Saturday, August 10 from 10am -- 4pm

Global Business English is more than memos and business documents. Students need a variety of skills, ranging from casual conversation over a business lunch to representing a company's position in more formal settings. This workshop covers how to do a learner needs analysis to make informed decisions on materials, how to adapt materials for Business learners, and classic situations and problem-solving in the English for Specific Purposes (ESP) classroom.
