It’s time to meet another team member! This month, we’re featuring our Director of Operations & Strategic Planning, Niki Siniscalchi! Niki has been with TC since 2008, when she started as a student in the Higher & Postsecondary Education program. Read on for her favorite hobbies outside of work, the best gluten-free waffles in New York, and more!
Where are you from?
I’m originally from Hyde Park, NY.
What brought you to TC?
I came to pursue our Higher & Postsecondary Education Master of Arts program in 2008, and I’ve been here ever since!
What is your position in the Admission Office? What kinds of projects do you work on?
I am the Director of Operations & Strategic Planning for the Office of Admission. In my role, I oversee all aspects of application management, such as application preparation, evaluation, enhancements, and our internal processing and operations. I am also heavily involved in developing and maintaining our various admission portals and associated resources provided to our applicants and admitted students. In partnership with the Director of Recruitment, I am responsible for general office leadership and management of our outstanding team!
What is your favorite spot to hang out on campus or in the Morningside Heights area?
Since I was a student, I have enjoyed spending time in the Gottesman Libraries. In particular, I enjoy the third floor as it’s quiet. I find that it is a great place to read a book or do some work on your computer surrounded by fellow TC community members!
What is your favorite food in NYC?
My favorite food in the city is definitely the gluten-free fried chicken and cheddar waffle from Friedman’s!
If someone only had one day to spend in the city, what would you tell them they must do?
There’s so much to do here! I’d probably say to take a stroll through Madison Square Park or Union Square (sit down and have a cup of coffee or hot chocolate, depending on the time of year!), followed by a rooftop meal and some shopping at Eataly and then catch a show or sporting event if you have the time!
What is your favorite activity to do outside of work?
Workout classes! You can catch me doing cardio, lifting weights, yoga, or dancing when I’m not at work — I just love to move around and stay active!
What is your favorite thing about living in NYC?
I love that you can walk just about everywhere! Whenever I can (especially on the weekends), I love to put on my headphones and go for a walk to see where the day takes me. Everything you could ever need or want to do is right here in NYC — either a few steps or just a quick train ride away!
