This month, we are meeting our Administrative Fellow, Wendy Wu! Wendy is a Higher and Postsecondary Education student from Los Angeles, California. Read on to learn more about her favorite food in NYC and some pro tips on how to spend the perfect day in the city!
Where are you from?
I’m from Los Angeles, California
What brought you to TC?
I came to TC to enroll in the MA in Higher and Postsecondary Education program. I wanted to further build upon my skills and knowledge about supporting students in higher education institutions. I decided to take on this internship with Admission to learn more about college applications from the perspective of a university official since I have only experienced the process from the student’s end. As a first-generation graduate student, I wanted to help others in the same position as I was last year streamline their application process.
What is your position in the Office of Admission? What kind of projects do you work on?
I am the Administrative Fellow. Some of my projects include providing information about the programs offered at TC as well as the application process to prospective students, hosting campus visits and virtual sessions, editing and sending out recordings of our virtual information sessions, reviewing program applications, and assisting with other recruitment and outreach projects.
What is your favorite spot to hang out on campus?
I enjoy hanging out at Butler Lawn at Columbia’s main campus! It’s a great place for studying, reading, or just catching up with friends.
What is your favorite food in NYC?
My favorite food in NYC is the specialty toasts at Davelle in the Lower East Side or the Peking Duck Buns at Shanghai You Garden in Flushing!
If someone only had one day to spend in the city, what would you tell them they must do?
If someone only had a day to spend in NYC, I would recommend checking out Central Park and taking in the beautiful scenery. I also recommend renting a rowboat at the Central Park Boathouse and adventuring around the lake!
What’s your favorite activity to do outside of work?
When I am not working, I enjoy playing video games and finding new food places to try.
What is your favorite thing about living in New York?
My favorite thing about living in NYC is the constant sense of discovery from simply walking around. Every neighborhood has something interesting to check out, whether it’s a bookstore, a trendy food vendor, or stumbling upon an art exhibit or museum in an unexpected place.
