We are excited to have you join our dynamic community of scholars as you pursue your graduate studies. Please find some information below regarding financial aid for newly admitted students.
Now that you have been admitted to Teachers College, you may have some questions regarding your financial aid application status. Our office is committed to helping you navigate this process as you prepare for your graduate studies. Based on your TC Scholarship Application as well as your Free Application of Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), we will review your eligibility criteria and provide updates on your financial aid award offer.
Once you have paid your deposit, you will be able to log onto your myTC portal to review your existing financial aid awards. Your financial aid package may change if there has been an additional scholarship or federal aid award posted onto your student record – these changes will be reflected on your myTC Portal and you will be notified by our office via email whenever there is an update.
Students who have not received any notification or update to their financial aid award after submitting the admissions deposit should review the prospective student website to ensure they have submitted the appropriate applications to be considered for any scholarship and federal aid. This includes the Teachers College Scholarship Application within the application for admission, as well as the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for those applying for federal aid. Completed FAFSA and TC Scholarship applications will be reflected on your myTC Portal.
Scholarship and stipend awards are automatically accepted on your behalf. If you have been awarded with a scholarship or stipend award, please review the terms and conditionsassociated with each award. Generally, scholarship and stipend awards are granted on a yearly basis and are not guaranteed to renew. Your scholarship application will remain active throughout your matriculation in the degree program.
Students who are eligible to submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will be considered for forms of federal student aid such as student loans, Federal Work Study, as well as the TEACH Grant. When submitting the application, make sure to check back on your Student Aid Report (SAR) sent to your FAFSA registered email for any additional information you may need to provide.
You should complete the appropriate FAFSA(s) with the Teachers College school code (G03979) as early as possible depending on your intended term(s) of enrollment:
Once you submit the FAFSA application, it may take approximately 2-3 weeks for our office to receive the application and to provide you with a federal aid award. If you have outstanding FAFSA requirements on your myTC Portal, you may need to contact our office to provide additional information or documentation. Note that any incomplete FAFSA application requirements will delay the federal aid awarding process, so it is important to check back for any missing student requirements on your SAR and myTC Portal.
An on-campus student position may be part of your admissions offer and financial aid award package. Students who are appointed as Research or Teaching Assistants will need to review their eligibility criteria for holding such positions. Federal Work Study positions are also available for those who have been awarded based on their FAFSA and meet the eligibility criteria for holding such positions, and can begin their job search on the TC Human Resources website as early as summer.
If you are anticipating an external source of funding, such as external scholarships or employer tuition reimbursement, please notify our office so we can better assist you with the financial aid planning process.
It is important to plan ahead for your graduate studies at TC and determine what costs you may incur over the course of the academic year. Visit our tuition and fees website to learn more about your Cost of Attendance, resources for budgeting, and more.
We understand that your financial aid award is an important aspect of your decision-making process. Our office hopes to be a valuable partner as you continue planning for your graduate studies at TC. We invite you to connect with our office if you have any questions during the financial aid process.
