Education - In Motion
Movement Sciences at Teachers College, Columbia University
approach the study of movement from a multi-disciplinary perspective. Our focus is on the practical applications of science and theory in the laboratory, clinic, school, and community, and our students gain hands-on experience by putting research into practice. Coursework emphasizes the scientific and theoretical core of physiology, behavioral science, neural bases of movement control, and pedagogy. We have long been a pioneer in the field of movement science, and our doctoral programs are among the best and most competitive in the nation.

Applied Excercise Physiology
This program focuses on the physiological effects of exercise and disease and on the promotion of physical activity across populations. The effects of exercise training on physiological processes, health, and physical well-being are emphasized throughout the curriculum.
Motor Learning and Control
Motor Learning study focuses on the behavioral, biomechanical, and neural bases of development, acquisition, and performance of functional movement skills. The program examines skill acquisition over the lifespan and includes the study of movement disorders.
Physical Education
The program is designed for individuals who wish to pursue careers in educational settings, including school PE, fitness gyms, health community–based organizations, and sports and recreational settings. In addition to offering outstanding graduate courses in movement science (e.g. motor learning, motor development, and exercise physiology), this program takes a distinctive humanistic perspective on the education of the body.
Kinesiology
The Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Kinesiology is a full-time program that prepares researchers in the areas of Movement Sciences and Kinesiology for research-intensive positions at Research I Universities and Academic Medical Centers. Study prepares the current and the next generation of researchers in the study of movement. Graduates assume professorial and full-time researcher roles in research-intensive universities and academic medical centers.

We are a graduate student body from all 50 states (plus D.C) and 84 nations. We're doing truly amazing things, like assisting refugees, creating technology to support individuals with disabilities, and programming apps that help first-generation college students navigate their campus experience. We have the courage to innovate and lead change.
We are also a welcoming, supportive, and vibrant community. Connect with your peers and grow through residence hall activities, club meetings, departmental lectures, and cultural events— We are in NYC, after all.
