Program Schedule

    • The program dates for 2025-2026 are September 2025 to May 2026.
    • Program orientation will take place in September 2025, with classes commencing the following day. There will be no classes for Thanksgiving. Fall classes run to mid-December.  Spring classes will run from January to April, with graduation in May 2026. 
    • Below are the schedules for the AY 2024-2025 Fall and Spring classes. AY2025- 2026 runs on a similar schedule.   **Please note that these are still subject to change at the program's discretion, as needed. 
    • Fall: 
    • Fridays, 3:00 - 5:00 PM 
    • Saturdays, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
    • Saturdays, 1:00 - 3:00 PM 
    • Spring:
    • Thursdays at 6:00-8:00 pm 
    • Fridays at 3:00-5:00 pm 
    •  Fridays at 6:00-8:00 pm

 

Program Policies

Certificates

Students who successfully complete the program of study, which entails earning a minimum of B- for every course taken in both the Fall and Spring semesters, will receive a Certificate of Completion. The following provisions apply:

  • Students who miss three sessions of a given course (e.g., three sessions of Practicum, APA, or Educational Linguistics) throughout the academic year, or miss less than three but do not perform satisfactorily in one or more courses, will receive a Certificate of Attendance.
  • Students who miss four or more sessions of a given course (e.g., 4+ sessions of Practicum, APA, or Educational Linguistics) throughout the academic year will not receive ANY type of certificate.
  • Students who miss the first two sessions of the program due to delays in obtaining an entry visa must make up for those sessions in the following academic year, and only thereafter will be awarded a Certificate of Completion or a Certificate of Attendance, depending on their performance. Note that the maximum delay allowed by the program is two sessions.

Plagiarism

Plagiarism of any form, including copying from the Internet, is strictly prohibited. Individuals who plagiarize will face disciplinary action including a warning from the instructor and a substantial grade reduction. Repeated offenses will lead to expulsion from the program.

Credit Transfer 

  • Graduates from the TCSOL (Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages) Certificate Program can transfer the equivalent of six credits into their subsequent study in the Master's program of Applied Linguistics or Bilingual Education at Teachers College, should they be subsequently accepted into either program. 
  • Students concurrently enrolled in the TCSOL Certificate Program and in TC TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or Bilingual/Bicultural Education master’s programs are assured successful transfer of six credits. Students are required to complete the necessary steps outlined by their master’s program advisor in order to ensure the transfer of credits into their degree program.
  • Students concurrently enrolled in the TCSOL Certificate Program and in a TC master’s program not outlined above may be able to transfer up to six credits into their program by permission of their master’s program advisor.
