A Letter from a TCP Alumna

We recently received an email update from a TESOL Certificate Program graduate from the summer of 2013, Claudia. Read on to learn how Claudia has applied what she learned in the TCP to her career in Hong Kong.

Hi there,

I did my TESOL cert program in the summer of 2013 and am from Hong Kong. I’d like to share with everyone about my recent developments.

Since Fall 2016, I’ve become the Academic Director of the MA in International Language Education program (TESL concentration) at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. This is a very special program that caters to students who are interested in teaching Chinese / English as a second language. It is jointly offered by the Center of Language Education (where I work as a senior lecturer) and the School of Humanities and Social Science. Students who are interested in a teaching career or pursuing further research will find this useful. I’m currently teaching the core course – Second Language Acquisition and elective – Teaching English for Academic Purposes. In 2014, I received the Excellence in Teaching Award in my university. This year, I’ve successfully received a grant being the principal investigator for creating an online self-paced course project.

As an alumna of the program. I’d like to express my gratitude to all the faculty members and teachers who taught me during that summer. Not only did I get to know more “teachery things” (as one of my instructors often says) that are so useful to my current job, but also how to manage a program of that scale and quality. Thank you so much!

Hope this sharing will help encourage more prospective students to take this meaningful program.
