A Letter from a TCP Alumnus

Read on to learn how TCP alumnus Ron has applied what he learned in the TCP and our workshops to his new career as an adjunct instructor at Fairleigh Dickinson University.

I earned my TESOL certificate at the 2015 Summer Program. I would like to let you know how things have progressed since then.

I have just completed my second semester as an adjunct instructor of English for Professional Success at Fairleigh Dickinson University. EPS combines Business English with Academic Writing (and grammar) and is a required course for most international students. I will be continuing to teach at FDU this fall. I was recommended for this position after meeting a current EPS instructor at the Business English workshop. I can assure you that these workshops provide networking as well as substantive benefits to students. In fact, my only suggestion would be to market these workshops more intensively to alumni and other professionals.

The program last summer was my most stimulating and challenging intellectual experience since law school, which was a long time ago. Nevertheless, I wondered whether I was truly ready for the classroom. I am delighted (and relieved) to report that I was. Teaching is a constant challenge and I am always making and learning from mistakes, but it is beyond question that the summer program at TC prepared me for this new profession and new chapter in my life.

I am truly grateful to you and all of your colleagues for the outstanding work you do in turning a diverse group of novices into beginning teachers in only a few weeks.

Best regards,
