Working closely with fellow language teachers—whether it was the first time they had stepped into an ESL classroom or the 1000th—as a TCP mentor proved to be one of the most joyful and rewarding experiences of my life. I was inspired by the thoughtfulness, dedication, and energy with which my mentees approached each lesson (and the challenges we encountered along the way), and it was a privilege to support them on their journey through the program and watch as their confidence and mastery in the classroom bloomed. We really became a team, sharing our ideas, experiences, and insights into what it means to be an educator as true colleagues. Not only did I learn as much from my mentees as I hope they did from me, but the TCP mentorship also provided an invaluable opportunity to once more reflect on my own teaching practices and philosophy and remind me why I love this work we do so much.
