BERC’s Virtual Learning Series for Teaching Black Studies

BERC’s Virtual Learning Series for Teaching Black Studies

As part of its commitment to enriching Black education, BERC launched the Virtual Learning Series for the Black Studies Curriculum (BSC). This series offers educators, scholars, and community members a deep dive into key themes central to Black history, culture, and education.

Throughout the series, participants have explored a range of compelling topics—from the historical foundations of Black studies to the intersections of culture, identity, and education. Each session is designed to deepen understanding, encourage dialogue, and support educators in implementing the BSC with confidence and cultural sensitivity.

One of the most anticipated upcoming events is Session 7: Black Visual Arts & Aesthetics. This session will explore the rich tradition of Black visual arts, highlighting the influence of Black artists in shaping cultural narratives and aesthetic expressions. From historical art movements to contemporary works, participants will gain insights into how Black visual culture continues to inform and inspire.

The Virtual Learning Series is more than a professional development opportunity—it’s a space for community-building and collective learning. By engaging with scholars and fellow educators, participants can better understand the cultural significance behind the BSC and discover innovative ways to bring these lessons into their classrooms.

As we look forward to Session 7 and beyond, BERC invites all educators and community members to join this transformative journey. Together, we can ensure that Black history and culture remain integral to the educational experience for all students.
