Where Does Artificial Intelligence Fit in the Classroom? Exploring myths, realities, and risks of bringing AI into Education’s Future

Teachers College, Columbia University is hosting an international conference on Friday, September 20, 2019, from 3 pm to 6 pm., on the future of Artificial Intelligence in Education in partnership with the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) and the Transformative Learning Technologies Lab at Teachers College. Coinciding with the 74th session of the UN General Assembly, the conference will feature: welcome remarks from TC President Thomas Bailey and WISE CEO Stavros Yiannouka; a keynote from Hod Lipson, James and Sally Scapa Professor of Innovation, Columbia University, one of the world’s foremost researchers and authorities on AI and robotics; and two panel discussions in which eminent researchers in education technology from Columbia University and other universities examine and debate AI’s potential impact on education with leaders from the tech world, the media, and NGOs. The conference will conclude with closing remarks from Paulo Blikstein, Associate Professor of Communications, Media and Learning Technology Design at Teachers College, and Borhene Chakroun, Director of Policies and Lifelong Learning Systems, UNESCO.
