Dr. Charles H.F. Davis III
Director of Higher Education Research and Initiatives at the Penn Center for the Study of Race &
Equity in Education. In addition, Dr. Davis also teaches at the Penn
Graduate School of Education where his courses have focused on
activism and social movements in college, race and racism in higher
education, and student identity development. For the last five years, his
award-winning ethnographic research has focused on documenting and
understanding the organizing practices of contemporary college
students engaged in activism and social justice work on-campus and
beyond.
Deray McKesson
A graduate of Bowdoin College, is among the
most visible of Black Lives Matter activists, known for his bold and
uncompromising calls to action. With his trademark blue Patagonia vest,
he's helped lead protests wherever they have erupted, from Ferguson to
Baltimore to Charleston. DeRay is a former Baltimore Mayoral
candidate, has previously worked for the Harlem Children's Zone, TNTP,
opened an academic enrichment center in West Baltimore, and the with
the Baltimore City Public Schools leading systemic human capital
change.
