Educational Background

Álvaro is an Ed.D. candidate in the Higher and Postsecondary Education Program at Teachers College, Columbia University. He received his Master’s in Higher Education Pedagogy from Université de Liège, in Belgium, and his Bachelor’s in Music Theory from Universidad de Chile. 


Scholarly Interests

Álvaro's primary research interests are in course-level teaching and learning, social class stratification, and the interaction of both in higher education. His dissertation explores the topic of social class-based fairness in the classroom assessment of working-class students’ learning in higher education courses. Álvaro is currently a senior research assistant at the Community College Research Center (CCRC). He has worked as the Higher Education Reform Content Manager at the Chilean Ministry of Education, the Sub-director of Undergraduate Studies at University of Chile, and a project manager and research assistant at Teachers College.
