Dr. Akol earned her M.A. from Columbia University and her Ph.D. from New York University. She has completed her APA-accredited clinical internship at the North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System. She has also completed her post-graduate training, earning her Certificate in Family Therapy from the Ackerman Institute.

Dr. Akol is licensed as a psychologist in NY State. She has worked in a weight management clinic and a substance abuse agency before establishing her private practice in NYC. She works with adolescents and adults as well as families and couples. Prior to Teachers College, she has taught at New York University and Adelphi University.
