Jerée Matherson is a doctoral student in Higher & Postsecondary Education at TC. Prior to moving to New York, Jerée worked as a fifth grade teacher in Horry County, South Carolina. After that, she held a joint appointment in academic research and planning for two deans at the New School’s Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts and New School for Social Research. Most recently, she’s worked as a Director for Special Projects in the Office of the President at Teachers College, Columbia University.
Her primary research interest lies in university partnerships with external institutions. She supported research planning and implementation efforts for Teachers College Community School, a public PK-8 school that demonstrates how affiliation with an institution of higher education can enhance public school education. Her dissertation utilizes the civic mission of higher education to investigate university partnerships through the case of university-prison partnerships. In addition to her forthcoming doctorate, she holds an MA and an EdM from TC and a BA from Coastal Carolina University.
