Dr. Joshua Starr became CEO of PDK International in 2015. Since then, Dr. Starr has been transforming a traditional membership association for educators into a vibrant social sector organization that engages education leaders and high school students aspiring to be teachers in learning and applying the latest research to their practice. Prior to that, he spent ten years as a superintendent of schools in both Montgomery County, MD and Stamford, CT. Dr. Starr began his career teaching special education in Brooklyn, N.Y. where he oversaw the design and implementation of a program for students with severe emotional and behavioral disabilities. He then became a central office leader focused on curriculum reform, accountability system design and implementation, and technology deployment in urban/suburban districts in the NY metropolitan area and New York City Department of Education. Throughout his career as an educator, Dr. Starr has led system wide transformation efforts focused on increasing access to advanced courses for traditionally underserved students, ensuring equity and social justice throughout the district, collaborating with teachers and staff, social-emotional well-being and family and community engagement.
