Laurel Ptak is a curator of contemporary art. She is currently Executive Director & Curator of Art in General in New York City. Her work has garnered numerous awards, grants, fellowships, and press for its nuanced engagement with timely issues, tireless originality, and unflinching belief in art’s role in shaping the society we live in. She has held diverse roles at non-profit art institutions in the US and internationally, including the Guggenheim Museum (New York), MoMA PS 1 Contemporary Art Center (New York), Museo Tamayo (Mexico City), Tensta Konsthall (Stockholm), among others. She currently teaches undergraduate and graduate students at Columbia University, New York University, and the School of Visual Arts in New York City and has lectured widely at museums, art schools, and universities across the United States and internationally. Ptak is a co-founder of the Art + Feminism Wikipedia Edit-A-Thon held yearly at MoMA and numerous organizations around the world. Committed to rigorous artistic practices, her work is well-known for opening up critical ideas for wide audiences. Recent curatorial projects have been covered by art and mainstream media alike, including Artforum, Frieze, Mousse, New York Times, The New Yorker, The Guardian, L.A. Weekly, National Public Radio, CBS News, and many others.
