The TC Annual Fund is responsible for raising over $2 million for the College’s annual budget in gifts from alumni and friends each year. Monies contributed to the Annual Fund support all aspects of the College including our world-class faculty, student financial aid, groundbreaking research, visionary programs and curricula, and much more. Everything that happens at the College year in and year out is supported by the Annual Fund, and every gift, no matter the amount, makes a difference.

Gifts to the Fund can be made in honor or in memory of someone, and can be directed toward general support, financial aid, or one of our ten program areas. Every gift makes a real difference, and provides funding that enables the College to meet yearly budgetary needs and the flexibility to address immediate and emerging needs as they arise throughout the year.
Participation in the Annual Fund by our alumni is crucial. Foundations, corporations, and other grantmakers include contributions by alumni in their evaluations of colleges and universities. The more alumni contribute to the Annual Fund—no matter the amount—the more likely they are to consider major grants to the institution.
The fiscal year at TC runs from September 1 each year to August 31 the following year. The earlier in the fiscal year you make your contribution, the more flexibility TC has in directing Annual Fund monies to its most crucial needs.
TC Fund donors are recognized at designated levels through two special membership societies: The John Dewey Circle (for gifts of $1,000 and above) and The Maxine Greene Society (for donors of any amount who contribute to the Fund for three or more consecutive years).

The John Dewey Circle brings together generous and loyal alumni and friends who support Teachers College through a yearly contribution of $1,000 or more to the TC Annual Fund. These leadership gifts are a vital mainstay of our operating budget and enable the College to support its world-class faculty and exceptional students in advancing groundbreaking research and programs.
The John Dewey Circle is named for the renowned progressive educator and academic philosopher who was a member of TC’s faculty from 1904–1930 and is one of the College’s most iconic figures. Dewey’s vision of learning through doing continues to guide the work of Teachers College.
Members of the John Dewey Circle are invited to special TC events, including the annual Dewey Circle Reception with TC President Thomas Bailey, and can have the opportunity to witness the impact of their generosity through meetings with faculty and students. All Dewey Circle members are recognized in a special section of TC’s Annual Report.
John Dewey Circle members enjoy additional benefits at levels described below:
Circle Members: $1,000 to $4,999
Scholar's Circle: $5,000 to $9,999
Dean's Circle: $10,000 to $24,999
Trustee's Circle: $25,000 to $49,999

All contributions are tax-deductible. Giving year extends from September 1 to August 31.
Members of the Maxine Greene Society are alumni, friends, faculty and staff who have supported the TC Fund through a gift at any level every year for three consecutive years or more. This sustained giving enables the College to support its highest priorities in scholarship and research as well as to meet unexpected critical needs.
The 1,800 Maxine Greene Society members are invited to attend special TC events, meet with faculty and students to learn about groundbreaking work taking place at TC and are recognized in the TC Annual Report.
The Maxine Greene Society recognizes a community of donors whose committed participation—year after year—exemplifies the values of Professor Emerita Maxine Green, a beloved and respected teacher, lecturer and author in education philosophy.
Maxine Greene and her work are a touchstone for generations of TC faculty, alumni and students, as well as for scholars and artists around the world. Maxine believed in deep engagement with the world and instilled that passion in all her students over the years. By consistently supporting the TC Fund, Maxine Greene Society members carry forward her remarkable legacy.
