Additional GWC Services

Walk-in Hours

Often, you may not need a full 30-minute or hour-long appointment. In cases where you have simple questions, want to consult with an advisor on a very short piece, or just want to try out the GWC, our tutors will work with you for 15 minute sessions. In Fall 2017 we are hosting our Walk-In hours twice a week, Wednesday 4-6pm & Friday 2-4pm, on a first come, first served basis.

Write-In

The GWC Write-In will take place during or before finals each semester, where you will find a quiet place to work on your Doctoral dissertation or Master's thesis alongside other TC writers, and you are welcome to come and go as you like. Caffeine & snacks will be available! Please e-mail writingcenter@tc.edu to RSVP.

The Write-Ins for Fall 2017 will be two Mondays each month in November and December from 9am-12pm.

Nov. 6 | Thorndike 163
Nov. 27 | Russell Hall 305
Dec. 4 | Russell Hall 305
Dec. 18 | Russell Hall 305

**No walk ins**

Dissertation Writers Retreat

During every major school break the GWC hosts a Dissertation Writers Retreat, a small-group opportunity to write in solidarity with other doctoral students preparing to submit their proposal or final manuscript. An advisor will lead participants through goal-setting activities, discuss strategies for productive writing both during and after the retreat, and offer advice on problem areas.

Acceptance in the retreat is competitive as participation is limited to 10 dissertators with priority given to those planning to propose or defend by May 2018. The retreat will be from 10am-2pm, January 4-7, 2018. To apply for the 2018 Retreat, please complete the application here by midnight on Tuesday, December 12th.

Writing Groups

The Teachers College Graduate Writing Center facilitates Independent Writing Groups by demand for doctoral students at the dissertation writing stage.  Please email writingcenter@tc.edu to express your interest with "Independent Writing Group" in the subject line.

Graduate students who are trying to organize their own independent writing groups may contact us for information on best practices throughout the year.  Email questions to writingcenter@tc.edu with "Independent Writing Group" in the subject line.
