Become an RDN

I want to become a Registered Dietitian-Nutritionist

It's relatively straight-forward to become an RDN at Teachers College:

  1. Begin by completing the master’s degree prerequisite courses.
  2. Apply for admission to one of our master’s degrees.
  3. Successfully complete the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) courses by completing one of our master’s degrees while concurrently completing three courses at Lehman College.
  4. Work with Teachers College faculty to obtain the necessary documentation needed to apply to the Dietetic Internship Program.
  5. Apply to and complete the Dietetic Internship Program (DI) at Teachers College.
  6. Pass the Dietetic Registration Exam administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). Effective January 1, 2024, CDR will require a minimum of a master’s degree to be eligible to take the credentialing exam to become an RDN. For more information about this requirement visit CDR's website: https://www.cdrnet.org/graduatedegree.

You can complete the whole process (excluding completion of the master’s prerequisite courses) in roughly three years of full-time study. However, we also welcome part-time students into our program.
