New International Student Welcome Information

The Office of International Services at Teachers College is excited to welcome you to TC!  We hope that you have a great journey during your time here and our office is here to assist you along the way!

New International Student Welcome Day

The Office of International Services invites you to attend New International Student Welcome Day on Friday, August 31, 2018. This day is for all new and incoming international students - and for anyone who feels 'international!' Come and meet returning students, OIS staff and volunteers, and staff from other TC offices.

Please RSVP here for the New International Student Welcome Day. Don't forget to also check out information regarding the New Student Orientation on Tuesday, September 4, 2018.

During the New International Student Welcome Day, you have the opportunity to attend the following sessions:

1). F-1 Visa Orientation

F-1 students who are new to Teachers College (including F-1 students transferring to Teachers College from other institutions) are required to attend an F-1 Visa Orientation session. Attendance at this session is mandatory. At the F-1 visa orientation OIS staff will explain essential F-1 immigration rules and requirements, including those covering:

  • Full-time Study
  • Employment
  • Travel and Re-entry
  • Departure and Termination of Status

2). J-1 Visa Orientation

J-1 students who are new to Teachers College (including J-1 students transferring to Teachers College from other exchange visitor programs) are required to attend a J-1 Visa Orientation session. Attendance at this session is mandatory. At the visa orientation OIS staff will explain essential J-1 immigration rules and requirements, including those covering:

  • Full-time Study
  • Employment and Taxes
  • Travel and Re-entry
  • Departure and Termination of Status
  • Departure and Termination of Status

3). Introduction to F/J Employment Basics

OIS staff will give an overview of TC employment options and international student eligibilities for on and off-campus employment requirements. This session will be repeated in October.

All international students new to TC must check-in with OIS on the dates indicated below. Please follow the detailed immigration check-in procedure information below before coming to your appointment.  Please select a check-in appointment time below:

IMMIGRATION CHECK-IN PROCEDURE

New international students at Teachers College are required to check-in with the Office of International Services upon arrival. Check-in is mandatory for all incoming initial and transfer students.

 

What to bring with you on your check-in day:

1). The New International Student Information Form

Please download and complete this form under the 'Forms' section of our website prior to your check-in appointment.

Please bring items two through five for you and your family.

 

2). Valid Passport(s)

For you and your family, if applicable.

 

3). F-1 or J-1 Visa

Exception: Canadian citizens are not required to have entry visas.

 

4). Form I-20 or DS-2019

Please make sure to sign your I-20/DS-2019 form at the bottom of the page.

 

5). I-94 Record *You will need your passport to retrieve your I-94 record

a. Log on to the Department of Homeland Security website: https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov/I94/#/home

b. Click on "Get Most Recent I-94"

c. Read through the "Security Notification" and click "Consent & Continue"

d. Enter your information to retrieve your most recent I-94 record

 

Tips on retrieving your most recent I-94 record

*Enter your name as it appears in your passport

*Be sure to check and enter your birthday month and birthday date correctly

*Double check that the information you entered matches the information in your passport

*If you have multiple names appear in your passport, you might consider entering different combinations as the port of entry officer may have entered only one or all of the names appearing on your passport

*If you continue to encounter issues retrieving your I-94 record or there are errors on your record, please speak to one of the international advisors

Tips for Surviving TC
