Dear MST Graduates,
Congratulations on your graduation from Teachers College! On behalf of all of the MST faculty and staff, I extend our very best wishes to you. We've enjoyed getting to know you during your time at TC, and are so proud of you for all of your accomplishments! It’s been a challenging year – we’ve missed being able to get together in person and I don’t think anyone expected that we would spend a whole academic year in virtual, remote learning mode. But it’s our pleasure to “see” you on Zoom in our classes, colloquia, meet-ups, lab meetings, office hours, and social gatherings.
While we aren't able to share our congratulations with you in person this April, we look forward to welcoming you back to MST and TC events in the future, one day soon – hopefully!—in person. As you can see from this gallery, you and your peers have done amazing work at TC, and we are always happy to learn with and from our terrific MST students. We know that in times of difficulty and upheaval in the world, our MST students, faculty, staff, and alumni are always striving to make things better. Thank you for spending part of your lives with us in the CMLTD suite, the Science Education corridor, and the Program in Mathematics offices. Please keep in touch with us; we always want to hear from our alumni!
Congratulations on your accomplishments and good luck with your next journey.
Congrats everyone! What a crazy and challenging year it's been. We missed having you here on campus with us this year but we are so proud of what you've accomplished--especially under the circumstances! Well done!
It goes without saying that this year has been one of constant challenges. It's revealed a lot about the world around us for sure, but also - I think - it's revealed a lot about ourselves. I've been constantly amazed, impressed, and heartened by how you'all dedicated yourselves to the work, how you supported each other, and how you brought such positivity to the things we do. Working with you all really helped me make it through this past year and while once is enough for an experience like this... there were also shining moments that I won't forget. Thanks students. Congratulations to graduates of 2021. Go on and continue doing great things.
Congratulations on this wonderful milestone! You have accomplished so much at TC. This year was challenging -- yet you rose to the challenge and overcame distance, Zoom/internet challenges, time zone coordination and many other kinds of adversity. We really appreciate all your hard work, creative energy, insights and many contributions -- and your smiles and unique personalities will stay in our memories. I can't wait to see what you will accomplish and where you go from here!
Students, Congratulations on reaching this milestone. I know it hasn't been easy and I know you must be tired -- you've been working so hard and this past year has been unforgiving on so many different levels (my own Zoom background has been the "this is fine" dog-in-a-burning-house meme for most of the year). This is a time to look back and be proud of who you are and all that you've achieved. You deserve to see your dreams come true. And knowing you, I'm confident that they will. Congratulations, graduates!
Quoting A.A. Milne, the author of the famous children's book Winnie the Pooh, "You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think!" You have competed your graduate degree in the midst of the largest world health crisis - you can do anything you set your mind to! Congratulations, class of 2021! We are so proud of you and are looking forward to your new accomplishments!
As we’ve learned this year, everything requires perseverance. Teaching is harder than you can imagine, but so much better than you can predict. As the Mars rover, named for our experience, currently sends us amazing data, remember the long journey it took to reach its desired destination! Please think of us and know we are here for you, as you begin exploring new frontiers on your journey. Be a rainbow in someone’s cloud! There is a light don’t let it go out.
Congratulations graduates! Getting through all the readings, assignments, courses, papers, dissertation defenses, student teaching, etc. of a degree program is always an accomplishment; with the craziness and uncertainty of pandemic-life and online learning, it is all more significant! I send my heartiest well-wishes for what comes next in your journey, knowing that you will take many of the ideas and experiences from your time at Teachers College and use them to change the world; one student, one colleague, one person at a time. But for now, enjoy an opportunity to celebrate all you have accomplished and learned along the way. Cheers!
To our student teachers who are graduating, You’ve succeeded in a year of opportunity and challenge at Teachers College. Now, as you leave us and enter your own classrooms in the fall, Do so with confidence, for you have prepared yourselves well. Best to you and your classmates on this joyous occasion.
A heartfelt congratulations to our wonderful Program in Mathematics and MST graduates of 2021! Completing a rigorous program during unprecedented times may be one of the hardest things you’ve had to do. You persevered and excelled! This exemplifies a culmination of hard work and determination, of which you should you should be very proud. Now that you’re prepared, the real work begins, contributing to the future of STEM education. You got this! With pride and joy I wish you phenomenal success and Mazal tov!
Congratulations! I am excited for you as you move into the next phase in your life. I cannot wait to read about all of the wonderful ideas you put into action to make our world a better place.
Congratulations on your graduation! Go out there and change the world!
Thank you to the faculty and staff at TC for an amazing educational experience. Special thanks to Dr. Jessica Riccio and to Dr. Felicia Mensah, you are both incredible! Finally, thank you to my amazing family, who are my personal cheerleading team and inspiration.
Thank you TC for a wonderful experience!
Dissertation: An Analysis of the Redesigned SAT I-Mathematics: Perceptions of Teachers, English Proficient Students, and English Language Learners
I am indebted to my dissertation committee and the Teachers College faculty who have helped me throughout my doctoral career. Special thanks to my family. Without their support, I would still be writing the Literature Review and eating Ramen packages for all my meals.
I'd like to thank all of the professors I have had the pleasure of working with in the MSTM department, particularly Dr. Weinberg! Each of you have made a positive impact on my journey into my own classroom. I would also like to thank the students I have been able to work with in the department, especially those who I am graduating with (Juliette, Jenny, Nina, Wenrui, and Larry)!
Looking forward to a new journey!
I am so glad to have the advisor that I have to lead me to become a great teacher. I couldn’t have done what I did without the help of my mentors and our small nest of people. I love you all and can’t wait to be a part of TC staff in the future.
Thank you to all the faculty, especially to my advisors and professors in the Mathematics Education Program, for guiding me throughout my time at TC. I will bring the knowledge and experience I gained here to inspire the future generation of students and make an impact in this world!
CMLTD is a wonderful place where I spent two years growing fast. Thank you, TC. Thank you, CMLTD.
It was a true joy to complete my master’s at Teachers College. I am continuously blown away by the generosity and support of folks from the TC community. My warmest thanks to all of my professors and instructors. Congratulations class of 2021 - we did it!
So happy to share in the excitement of graduation day with all of my classmates. The steps we took together by empowering change through educational technology brings our communities a chance to build new learning opportunities for success. I hope you all find your BLISS and shine bright on your next adventures. Thank you to all that have supported my time at TC. All the best!
This has truly been an amazing 2 years of my life. I am so grateful for the guidance and support I received from amazing professors and lovely friends that I met at TC. Thank you, all!
Be bold and daring.
It was a great pleasure studying in the MST department. I appreciate the problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and creativity cultivated here and I enjoyed all the courses I had. I love the teachers and classmates I met who are really smart and nice. Thank you, Teachers College for bringing me a fantastic experience that I will never forget.
While the two-year graduate student life at TC has been an amazing yet challenging journey for me, especially amid the pandemic, I don’t want to end this chapter so soon. I feel so lucky to have met teachers and classmates who have impacted my life greatly in the past 2 years. I would like to express my sincere appreciation to my advisor, Dr. Chang, and the instructors who have taught me before: Dr. Holbert, Dr. Literat, Dr. Kuwata, Dr. Meier, Monica, and Dr. Lee. I already miss the good times having dynamic conversations with faculty and peers in classrooms, and taking a moment to sunbathe in the grass on the CU campus. Hope we’ll have a chance to meet again someday in the future!

Dissertation: ELIMINATING REMEDIAL MATHEMATICS: A CASE STUDY OF THE DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A MODULAR MATHEMATICS CURRICULUM
Thank you to everyone in the MSTM department for making my journey here at TC memorable and fruitful. A special thanks to Dr. Smith and Dr. Wasserman for imparting their wisdom and expertise on me, and whose contributions were invaluable to the success of my dissertation. I would be remiss if I did not mention Dr. Vogeli, who provided me words of encouragement I needed to persevere in the early stages of my education at TC. I only wish I could shake his hand and give him thanks for all he has done for me and countless others. Ultimately, I am so grateful to my wife Elizabeth, with her patience, understanding, and support over the better part of the last decade I succeeded in accomplishing something remarkable.
Dissertation: How Undergraduate Students Developed their Misconceptions in Learning Calculus Concepts
A special thanks to my sponsor and Professors at the Department of Mathematics. Your professional suggestions for my Dissertation made possible for a successful completion. Upon with your support and encouragement, I have made thus far to celebrate this special moment. It’s a blessing to have you in my life during my Graduate study at CU. No words can express my appreciation, but a tremendous thanks!
Thank you, Teachers College, for equipping me with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to carry out the torch and lead our current and future generations of student leaders to believe in the power of Mathematics. The transformative academic experience and community support that I received these past two years cultivated my desire to represent the College’s legacy in thriving for social justice, fostering inclusivity, and encouraging participation in my classroom and academic environments.
Dissertation: GIRLS’ EXPERIENCES WITH GENDER-INCLUSIVE CURRICULUM: AFFECTS ON PERCEPTION, CONFIDENCE, AND BELIEF IN ABILITY TO DO SCIENCE
I'm extremely grateful for the amazing experiences I've had during my time at Teachers College, and thankful for all of my professors' hard work and guidance, especially Dr. Mensah, my unwavering mentor, without whom I would not have made it through the last five years. TC has opened my eyes to the many ways that I can make a contribution to the education of teachers and students, and I'm excited to get out into the world and make a difference! Congratulations to my fellow graduates! Class of 2021, the future is ours!
Thank you to Teachers College and the CMLTD program for the memories!
I feel very fortunate to have been able to study at TC during such an important moment in education. I am excited to apply what I have learned at TC in my first classroom!
Time flies, and I still remember the curious and exciting feeling I had when I arrived at Whittier Hall to get my Student ID about two years ago. I spent four wonderful semesters with outstanding professors here, and I also made some close friends. We spent the most difficult time together during the pandemic, and now summer is coming and things are getting better. I love TC, I love Columbia, and I love New York deeply. Now I am about to leave, and I don't know when I will come back or in what capacity. But I will regard my time here as the most unforgettable experience in my life.

The MA degree in Instructional Tech and Media is one of the best decisions I have ever made. A hearty thanks to my peers, faculty and broader TC community that have made this journey such a unique and rewarding experience! Hats off to the Class of 2021!
My time at TC Columbia has been truly transformative. Although we have spent a year learning virtually since March 2020, I feel that I have learned so much and enjoyed the process a lot. I'm so grateful for meeting so many supportive faculty and staff members, as well as the talented students. I hope there will be a day when we can all meet in person! Thank you all for the wonderful learning experience!
Congratulations to all of my fellow graduates! :)
I am honored to be a part of the TC and Columbia communities, and to have met the esteemed professors and my amazing cohort who are passionate and proud of their work. It was such an inspiring and enjoyable year of working with the people here, who taught me to think critically and act inclusively. My journey here at TC has broadened my horizons and given me such a great foundation upon which to grow. We made it! And I wish everyone a fruitful and prosperous future.
Starting and completing my master's program completely online was a unique experience. I am grateful for what Columbia TC had to offer me.
I had a wonderful time at TC! Living through COVID in New York gave me a new perspective of the city. I really enjoyed the two years that I spent here, and it would be perfect if we could have a physical graduation ceremony. Also, check out my work on my website: lingyizhou.com
Who could have imagined that my entire TC experience would take place in my bedroom? Who could have guessed that I would be educating students through the camera on my monitor? Who could have though that Zoom would be helping me form relationships with my professors and peers? The short answer: "It depends." When I think about how my past year was spent, I think of the night classes where my professors would guide me to think about a familiar concept in a completely new way; I think of my own teaching where my students would always keep me on my toes; I think of my Tea(m) who always found ways to help me when I didn't understand, support me in times of need, and make me laugh or smile. Cheers to a wonderful year full of theorems, questions, confusions, resolutions, grading, eliciting, conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and mathematical reasoning and/or problem solving. Now... let's go teach some Math!!!
Everything I have learned at TC has changed my vague dream to a firm goal. Absolutely unforgettable and memorable experience in my life. I’m so lucky to have people who always support me. Thank you to all the amazing faculty and staff at TC, my family and Peter!
