"Power Gap: An Historian’s Take on Leadership Challenges in Post‐Obama America"

Presented by DR. KHALIL GIBRAN MUHAMMAD Director of the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture

In a nation where nearly every institution values diversity and inclusion and most every individual believes in opportunity for all, people of color are vastly under-represented in senior leadership positions across all sectors of American society. What explains this enduring maldistribution of power and influence among people of color? And what should we do about it? Is it even enough to focus on racial representation as the measure of progress?  To generate ideas for transforming the future, this talk will ask fellows to think about the limits of power in their various institutions and what barriers prevent change?

3:30 - 5:00 p.m.

Panel II

Response to Keynote Presentation

Moderated by TC Macy Professor of Education ERNEST MORRELL
