Dr. Carol D. Birks
Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Leadership, Hartford Public Schools
Dr. Carol D. Birks, member of UELP's 2009 cohort, is currently an Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Leadership at Hartford Public Schools. Dr. Birks works collaboratively with a Networked Improvement Community (NIC) to build the capacity of school leaders to improve student academic outcomes for eleven schools. Additionally, Dr. Birks is the Chief Executive Officer and founder of her own business, Erudite Educational Consulting LLC, an educational consulting company which provides executive coaching and professional learning to school leaders nationally and internationally. She also most recently obtained the National Elementary School Principals (NAESP) Principal Mentor Certification.
Dr. Birks' research interests include African American male student achievement, adult learning theory and development, high school redesign, leveraging community partnerships, and executive coaching.
Dr. Birks has a strong commitment to community and civic engagement. Currently, she is a proud member of The New Haven Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., The Fairfield County Chapter of the Links Inc., and member of the Board of Directors for Achievement First Hartford Academy.
