Owner: Human Resources

1.0 Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to recognize, celebrate, and show appreciation to employees who have demonstrated their commitment to serving the College through their continued employment.

2.0 Scope

This policy applies to full and part time professional staff and union members.

3.0 Policy

The Teachers College Service Recognition Program shows appreciation for long-term, full and part-time employment of professional staff and union members with the College. Eligible staff are recognized for 10 years of service and for each subsequent five-year service anniversary (each a “milestone”). Service milestones are recognized by presentation of a certificate of achievement, and a milestone pin at the annual Long Term Recognition Ceremony.

3.1 Eligibility

3.1.1 Employees are eligible to receive the appropriate service award after completing 10 years of eligible service and at each following five-year threshold of continuous full-time and part-time service at the College. For purposes of this policy, eligibility is not cumulative; if an employee separated from the College and later is re-employed, their eligibility period will restart as a new employee.

3.1.2  The recognition ceremony occurs once yearly. If an employee’s milestone anniversary date falls between July to December, they will be honored the following year; if their milestone anniversary date falls between January to June, they will be honored within the same year. Service years are calculated based on an employee’s current hire date.

The eligible employee must be in an active position in order to participate in this ceremony event. Employees in leave of absence status will receive their awards upon their return.

3.1.3 Human Resources maintains service records, and provides reports determining eligibility based on the eligibility criteria indicated in this policy.
