Clearance to Student Teach
Student teachers enrolled in an approved teacher preparation program at Teachers College must receive a Clearance Letter from the Office of Teacher Education and School-based Support Services before starting the student teaching experience at the designated school site. Clearance is given upon submission of a tuberculosis form, proof of fingerprinting, registration with the New York City Department of Education, as well completion of the Child Abuse Identification and School Violence Prevention and Intervention Workshops. Failure to comply will lead to suspension or dismissal from the host school until all requirements are met.
At the end of each placement, students must submit the Record of Hours form and Placement Diversity Report. Students who do not submit hours and the diversity report will have their diplomas and teaching certificates withheld until they are submitted to the Office of Teacher Education.
Please refer to the Student Teaching Packet available at http://www.tc.columbia.edu/studentteaching/ for more information.
*As per the new policy declared on December 13, 2006 by the NYCDOE- All student teachers entering New York City public schools must have fingerprint clearance before entering the classroom. International students are exempt from this policy.
