About the Project

The Italian SBLA Project is a collaborative effort between the University for Foreigners of Siena and the SBLA Lab. Launched in May 2021, the Italian SBA team is currently developing its CEFR B1-level prototype of the assessment.

Giulia Peri is a PhD student in Applied Linguistics at the University for Foreigners of Siena. Her research interests focus on L2 Italian Teaching and Learning, Language Testing and Assessment and Language Testing and Technology. She has worked as a Research Fellow at CILS Centre - Certification of Italian as a Foreign Language of the University for Foreigners of Siena. She has also worked as a Language Assistant for Italian and English in the Canary Islands and Australia.

Paola Masillo is PhD in “Linguistics and Teaching Italian as second language”, University for Foreigners of Siena. She graduated at the University for Foreigners of Siena in Linguistics and Intercultural Communication, with a dissertation on Language Testing and Assessment. Her main research focuses on learning Italian as a foreign/second language, language assessment and language policies. She has been a post-doctoral research fellow at the CILS Centre of the University for Foreigners of Siena, where she is currently working in the technical-scientific and data processing area.

Marco Cassandro has been interested in teaching and learning Italian as a Second Language for many years. In 2001, he obtained the title of PhD in Didactics of the Italian language at the University for Foreigners of Siena where he currently teaches Italian L2. He also deals with the design and implementation of learning paths, including those online. He has to his credit published articles and teaching materials and has taught on numerous training courses for teachers, in Italy and abroad.

Roberto Tomassetti completed his PhD and Phd Postdoc in Linguistics and Second Language Acquisition at the University for Foreigners, Siena. He is a Language Teacher and Teacher Trainer and also taught European Language Policies, Language Teaching and ITC in several Universities. In 2017 he was a Visiting Scholar at Linguistics & Education Applied Linguistics & TESOL Program Teachers College, Columbia University, New York to research about Teaching Assessment. His research interests are: Language Teaching Assessment and Development, Plurilingualism and Migration, Gender issues in Language Teaching. He is in the Scientific Committee of “Scuolemigranti”, a network for linguistic and social integration in Italy.

Laura Renzoni earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Linguistic and Cultural Mediation (major in French, English and Spanish) and Master's Degree in Linguistics and Intercultural Communication (First class with distinction) at the University for Foreigners of Siena and, following her interest in language teaching, she completed specialization postgraduate courses (2 years) in Teaching Italian as a second language (First class with distinction) and she earned DITALS, a certification of competence in teaching Italian as a Foreign Language both from the University for Foreigners of Siena.

Since 2010, teacher of Italian language and culture at private and public Italian and foreigners Institutes such as Siena’s public school, the University for Foreigners of Siena, COASIT of Melbourne, the University of Rennes 2 of Rennes (France), Pangea Association of Siena, Inditalian School Of Indianapolis (USA) and since 2019 for IES Abroad-Siena. She is the manager of the group of Siena of LEND (lingua e nuova didattica) and she organizes courses for teacher especially on CLIL methods, ITC, Cooperative Learning and new teaching and learning methods. She also makes research about the use of the Linguistic Landscape as a teaching materials.
