Land Acknowledgement

Land Acknowledgement

As part of our commitment to education and equity, Teachers College acknowledges the persistent racial injustices and inequity that indigenous peoples and communities of color continue to face in the United States and beyond our borders. Teachers College acknowledges that we occupy, and live and learn on, the ancestral and traditional homelands of the Lenape people, who were displaced when Dutch settlers colonized the Native American land of Manahatta, now known as Manhattan. We honor and pay respect to the Lenape peoples, whose name translates to the word “real,” by recognizing their continuing relationship with this land.
