Subway

The subway station serving Teachers College is the 116th St stop of the IRT Broadway-Seventh Avenue local. The No. 1 subway train (red line) are local trains serving this station. Be sure that you are on (or transfer to) the local line at the 96th St Station. The express line (No. 2 or No. 3 trains) does not serve Columbia University.

There are subway entrances at Penn Station and the Port Authority Bus Terminal. From Grand Central Station, the Shuttle (S) goes to "Times Square" 42nd St, offering access to the No. 1 IRT Broadway Local trains going uptown.

To the Zankel Building:

  • Exit 528 West 121st St., past the accessible parking lot, and turn left on the 120th Street sidewalk.
  • Enter the main entrance to Teachers College via the wheelchair ramp.
  • Immediately in front of you is the elevator to all Zankel floors.

OR

  • Use the elevators closest to the front 528 West 121st St. entrance to go down to the ground floor.
  • Exit the elevator, go down the hall, take your first left, pass the OASID Testing and Assistive Computer Lab and the lockers, and go all the way down the hall.
  • Turn left and go straight down the hall. The Business Services Center is on your right at this point.
  • The elevator can take you to all other Zankel Building floors.

NOTE: If you are going to Milbank Chapel and intend to go to the stage level, you must notify the security officer at the main entrance to Zankel that you need someone to operate the wheelchair lift.

 

To Macy Hall:

  • Follow the instructions above to the Zankel Building.
  • Use the Zankel elevator to go up one floor to the first floor.
  • Exit the elevator and go out through the pull doors.
  • Take a right, go straight down the hall, and take your next right to the wheelchair lift to Macy Hall.
    • NOTE: You must notify the security officer at the main entrance to Zankel that you need someone to operate the wheelchair lift to Macy Hall.
  • The elevator to all Macy Hall floors will be to your right.

OR

  • Follow the instructions above to the Zankel Building.
  • Take the elevator to the fourth floor.
  • Exit the elevator, go out through the pull doors, and take a right.
  • Go straight down the hall to the wheelchair ramp and go through the pull door on your right.
  • The elevator to all Macy Hall floors will be to your right.

 

To Grace Dodge Hall:

  • Use the elevators closest to the front 528 West 121st St. entrance to go down to the ground floor.
  • Exit the elevator, go down the hall, take your first left, pass the OASID Testing and Assistive Computer Lab and the lockers, and go all the way down the hall.
  • Turn left and go straight down the hall. The Business Services Center is on your right at this point.
  • Go down the hall and take a left at the post office.
  • Go straight through the commuter lounge and you will be in Grace Dodge Hall.
  • Take a right and go down the hall. The cafeteria will be on your left and the elevators to reach all Grace Dodge floors will be on your right.

 

To get to Russell Hall / Gottesman Libraries:

  • Follow the instructions above to the Zankel Building.
  • Use the Zankel elevator to go up one floor to the first floor.
  • Exit the elevator and go out through the pull doors.
  • Turn left. Russell Hall/Gottesman Libraries will be at the end of the hall. Elevators will be on your left to take you to all Russell Hall floors.

 

To Horace Mann Hall or Thompson Hall:

  • Use the elevators closest to the front 528 West 121st St. entrance to go down to the ground floor.
  • Exit the elevator, go down the hall, take your first left, pass the OASID Testing and Assistive Computer Lab and the lockers, and go all the way down the hall.
  • Turn right, follow the wheelchair ramp, go all the way down the hall, and turn right.
  • You will reach an elevator that will take you to any floor in Horace Mann Hall.
  • After exiting the elevator, go toward your right to enter Thompson Hall.

OR

  • Go down 528 West 121st St., past the Graduate Student Life and Development Office.
  • Go through a set of pull doors. At the end of the hall on your left is another elevator that leads to all 528 West 121st St. floors.
  • Go immediately left through the stairwell. You are now in Horace Mann.
  • At the end of the hall and take a left
  • On your left is the Cowin Center auditorium. Further down the hall on your right is the elevator to all Horace Mann Hall and Thompson Hall floors.
  • A left turn at the end of this hall takes you to Thompson Hall.

 

To Whittier Hall:

  • Follow the instructions above to Grace Dodge Hall.
  • Go past the elevators, through the cafeteria, and exit through the door in the far right corner.
  • Go immediately left through the stairwell. You are now in Horace Mann.
  • At the end of the hall and take a left
  • On your left is the Cowin Center auditorium. Further down the hall on your right is the elevator to all Horace Mann Hall and Thompson Hall floors.
  • A left turn at the end of this hall takes you to Thompson Hall.

NOTE: Access to Whittier Hall is for Teachers College students, staff, faculty, and their guests. Students, staff, and faculty needing access to Whittier Hall through accessible pathways must contact the Office of Access and Services for Individuals with Disabilities to arrange for their IDs to be programmed for accessible entrances and exits.

All visitors to Teachers College should enter through the main entrance in the Zankel Building.
